Home of the Jets!

A Note From the Principal

Welcome to a brand new school year! I hope your summer was filled with rest, joy, and lasting memories. As we prepare to open our doors and welcome back our students, I want to share how excited we are for all that lies ahead.

This year, our theme is “We Make Jackson Shimmer.” At Jackson, we believe that every student, staff member, and family contributes to the brilliance of our school community. Just like a shimmer reflects light in many directions, we are committed to helping every child shine in their own unique way—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Throughout the year, you will see this theme come to life through joyful learning experiences, strong relationships, and a focus on growth and excellence. We believe in the power of collaboration, and your partnership plays a vital role in helping our students succeed.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. Let’s make this a year filled with growth, connection, and moments that make Jackson truly shimmer.

Transportation Form

Action Required: Student Transportation

Dear Lamar CISD parents and guardians,
Please complete the required student transportation form before the last day of school on May 22, 2025. This form provides our transportation department with important information to organize bus routes for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Log into Family Access to fill out and submit the form.
Each student, no matter their form of transportation, must have a student transportation form completed by their parent or guardian before the start of the next school year. It’s especially important for bus riders to fill out the Transportation Form to ensure they have bus transportation on the first day of school (Monday, August 11, 2025).
For more information, click HERE.
For instructions on how to complete the form, click HERE
For additional information or assistance, contact your student’s campus for more information

To plan accordingly for your student, please review a list of important dates below:
•   August 3: Deadline to submit the form for students who want to receive bus transportation on the first day of school (Monday, August 11).
•   August 4 - 22: During this time, if families fill out the Transportation Form requesting bus transportation for a student, then the student will start receiving bus transportation on Monday, August 25.
•   August 23 or after: During this time, if families fill out the Transportation Form requesting bus transportation for a student, then the student will start receiving bus transportation after five school days.

First Day Information & Reminders

  • Parents are welcome to walk their child to class on the first day of school! Our instructional day begins promptly at 7:45 AM, and we kindly ask that all parents exit the building at that time so we can begin our day smoothly.
  • Each student will receive one new ID badge on the first day. If the badge is lost or damaged, replacements can be purchased in the front office for $5.
  • Please ensure your child’s teacher knows how your child will be going home on the first day. We encourage you to begin the year with your regular dismissal routine to help ensure a smooth and safe process.
  • To avoid confusion, changes to dismissal should be limited to emergencies only. Any changes must be communicated by a parent note or phone call before 2:00 PM.
  • Dismissal changes requested by students will not be accepted.

Update on Personal Communication Devices at Lamar CISD

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, Lamar CISD will implement the following practices in accordance with the new law:
  • All personal electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must be turned off before entering campus.
  • Devices must be stored in backpacks or lockers—not on the student’s person (e.g., clothing pockets)—and must remain powered off and completely out of view throughout the school day.
  • Use or visible possession of any personal communication device during the school day will result in confiscation and disciplinary consequences.

This includes all areas inside the school building such as:
  • Classrooms
  • Libraries
  • Cafeterias
  • Hallways
  • Restrooms
  • Locker rooms
  • Any other common spaces

Devices may be turned back on only after the final bell at dismissal, at which time students may use them to communicate with parents or guardians regarding transportation or other after-school needs.

Please note: Receiving a call or text from a parent or family member during class is not an acceptable reason for device use. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call the school’s front office, and we will ensure your message is delivered.

If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, they should report to the front office.

School Procedure Reminders

  • The building opens at 7:15 and breakfast ends at 7:45. If you would like your student to eat at school, please be at school no later than 7:30 so they can quickly eat and make it to class on time.
  • Please note, we do not allow parents to eat breakfast with students. This is because breakfast is meant to be quick, so students can complete morning work in their classrooms.
  • We are open for parents to come to and have lunch with students during their lunch time.
  • Please note, if you have multiple students at different lunch times we do not allow parents to linger in the lunch room waiting until the next child's lunch time. You must leave and return at that child's lunch time.

Transportation Reminders

We ask that you limit making changes as much as possible. We want to make sure that students and teachers are both confident in how students go home. Having multiple changes in transportation can confuse both teachers and students and increase the likelihood that a student ends up in the wrong place.
Bus Riders
  • Students will be required to wear their ID bus tags each day to and from school. If a student loses their tag parents are responsible for replacing it immediately. All replacements will be $5.00.
  • If you are not sure of your child's bus number, please check the Lamar CISD website.
  • Kinder will NOT be released at their stop if a parent or older sibling is not there with the district approved blue card (will be given at Meet the Teacher and on the first day). They will be brought back to school. If this happens several times, they will not be allowed to ride the bus.
Walkers
  • Walkers should only have this as a dismissal option if they are walking all the way home. We do not allow students to walk and then be picked up. If we notice this, we will have the students transportation changed to car rider.
Car Riders
  • Parents MUST have a Jackson car tag visible in the car window.
  • For student safety parents may not get out of the car and walk up to pick up their child/children.

Absence & Tardy Policy Reminders

Excused Absences for Compulsory Attendance
State law allows exemptions to the compulsory attendance requirements for several types of absences if the student makes up all work. The District shall excuse a student from attending school for the following purposes:
• Religious holy days
• Required court appearances
• Activities related to obtaining United States citizenship
• Health-Care Appointments
• TAPS at Military Funeral
• Parent, Stepparent, or Legal Guardian who is an active-duty member of the uniformed services
• Personal Illness
• Death/Funeral of an Immediate Family Member
• Quarantine

Unexcused Absences
If an absence does not meet the criteria for an excused absence, the absence will be considered unexcused for attendance accounting purposes. Examples of unexcused absences include, but are not limited to the following:
• Any absence without required documentation.
• Family trips/vacations, reunions, weddings, parent business trips.
• Non-school sponsored activities.
• Private lessons or tutoring.
• Religious retreats, camps, mission trips, and individual rites other than a religious holy day.
• Non-enrollment days – These are days that a student is not in school due to transferring to another LCISD campus or alternative placement.

DOCUMENTATION AFTER AN ABSENCE
When a student is absent from school, the student, upon arrival or return to school, and within five (5) days of the absence must bring a note signed by the parent, medical professional, or court official giving the date(s) of the absence(s) and describing the reason for the absence. The campus will document in its attendance records for the student whether the absence is considered by the district to be excused or unexcused. Please note that, unless the absence is for a statutorily allowed reason under compulsory attendance laws, the district is not required to excuse any absence, even if the parent provides a note explaining the absence.

DOCTOR’S NOTE AFTER AN ABSENCE FOR ILLNESS
Upon return to school, a student absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. Otherwise, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused and, if so, would violate compulsory attendance laws. Should the student develop a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s absence from school in order to determine whether the absence or absences will be excused or unexcused.

TARDY
Students who do not arrive in class by the campus start time, 7:45, are counted as tardy. Tardy students are subject to disciplinary action.
Actions that will be taken
1st Tardy: Warning
2nd Tardy: Warning
3rd Tardy: Warning
4th Tardy: Teacher Call Home
5th Tardy: Lunch Detention (student sits at a table away from class and peers)
6th Tardy: Parent Conference with Admin and Lunch Detention

Campus Nurse Reminders

If your child is sick:
  • Children must be fever free (less than 100.0 degrees) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Advil/Motrin) before returning to school. Children must be free of diarrhea/vomiting and tolerate food and water for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Please call the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as COVID-19, pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, head lice, impetigo, ringworm, or the flu.
Forms:
  • Forms can be downloaded from the Jackson Elementary School Website by clicking on the “About” and “Nurse’s Notes”. Links to needed forms are located on the right-side of page: medication order forms, allergy action plans, dietary restrictions, etc.
Medications:
  • Children are not permitted to carry medications; this includes cough drops. Parents must deliver the medication, in its original container, to the clinic and bring only the necessary amount for school.
  • All prescription medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Medications such as antibiotics 3 times a day or every 8 hours are to be given at home. There are no “stock medications” in the clinic such as Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, Neosporin, etc.
Food Allergies:
  • We are NOT a peanut free school, but we do not serve peanut items on the menu. In order to accommodate any food restrictions, you must fill out the Dietary Accommodation Form and have it signed by your physician. This can be found on the LCISD website under Departments, Child Nutrition and click on the Dietary Accommodation section.
  • Any severe food allergy will require a Life-Threatening Allergy Action Plan signed by your physician.
Immunizations:
  • Texas Department of Health requires all school age children to be up to date on immunizations. Children are excluded from school until the required immunizations are obtained and a copy is given to the school nurse.
School Nurse logo
Clothing:
  • All students must have a change of clothing in their backpacks. This is to avoid the nurse having to call you should your child need a change of clothes for a restroom accident or any other reason.
Beginning of Year Forms:
  • All medical conditions must be logged into Skyward. In addition, please list at least 2 medical emergency numbers in Skyward. If I cannot reach a parent, and there is a medical emergency, I will have no choice except to call an ambulance.

If you have questions regarding your child’s health, please feel free to email, call, or stop in the clinic.
